NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF ZONING ORDINANCE #19-4 TEXT AMENDMENT AND ADDITIONS

To: The residents and property owners of the Township of Franklin, Lenawee County, Michigan, and other interested persons.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: that at a Regular Meeting held on October 8, 2019, the Franklin Township Board approved a text amendment to the Franklin Township Zoning Ordinance amending Section 4.04.2 Accessory Building Height in R-1 Residential District which currently states "one (1) story with a maximum height of sixteen (16) feet in height" amending to "twenty-five (25) feet maximum height." Eliminating the wording  "one (1) story."

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: that at a Regular Meeting held October 8, 2019, the Franklin Township Board approved the following addition to the Zoning Ordinance: "Self-Service Storage Facilities" as a "Conditional Use" in C-1 General Commercial as Section 12.03.13, CR-Commercial Recreation District as Section 13.03.13 and M-1 Industrial District as 14.01.8. 

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: that at a Regula Meeting held October 8, 2019, the Franklin Township Board approved adding the following definition of a "Self-Service Storage Facility" to Definitions in Article XXI (21) in the Zoning Ordinance: "Self-Service Storage Facility". A Building or group of buildings in a facility that contains varying sizes of individual, compartmentalized, and controlled-access stalls or lockers for the storage of customer's goods or wares."

EFFECTIVE DATE: The Amendment is hereby ordered to take effect as follows: 30 days following publication if a notice of intent to file a petition requesting submission of this ordinance to a vote of Townshp electors has not been filed within seven days of publication; and, if such a petition has been filed within seven days of publication, this ordinance shall not take effect until one of the following occurs: (1) the expiration of 30 days after publication of this ordinance and a petition found by the Township Clerk to be adequate has not been filed; or (2) a petition found by the Township Clerk to be adequate under law filed within the 30 days, and this ordinance is then approved by a majority of the registered electors residing in the portion of the Township outside the limits of cities and villages. In order to be adequate, a petition submitted within the 30 days must be signed by a number of registered electors residing in the portion of the Township outside the limits of the cities and villages equal to not less than ten (10%) percent of the total vote count for all candidates for governor at the last preceding general election at which governor was elected. 

The Franklin Township Zoning Ordinance may be viewed at franklintownship.net or inspected at the Franklin Township Hall during regular business hours.

CENSUS 2020


BEGINNING WEEK OF AUGUST 5, 2019 - OCTOBER 2019 ADDRESS CANVAS LISTERS WILL VERIFY EACH HOME IN FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP. 
MARCH 12-20, 2020 HOUSEHOLDS WILL RECEIVE AN INVITATION TO RESPOND EITHER ONLINE OR BY PAPER QUESTIONNAIRE FOR THE 2020 CENSUS. HOUSEHOLDS THAT DO NOT RESPOND WILL BE FOLOWED-UP IN PERSON. AN ACCURATE COUNT IS THE GOAL OF EVERY CENSUS. THE RESULTS OF THE CENSUS CAN HAVE A REAL IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY FOR FUTURE PLANNING AND HOW FUNDS ARE DISTRIBUTED.
